Hopkinson, D.
(2012) Titanic: voices from the disaster. NY:
Scholastic Press.
Real stories come to life in the true account of the
sinking of the Titanic. The author takes
the time to give a voice to the victims and survivors of the devastating event
that ended the lives of hundreds. There
are true accounts from survivors, Violet Jessop and of Captain Arthur Rostron
whom was the captain of the Carpathia.
The stories tug at your heart strings as you feel the
desperation of the event and the lives that were lost. There are various historical details and lots
of archival photographs on almost every page.
The gripping story is a true masterpiece for Titanic historians.
This book details true events and testimonials and would
be more suited for middle to high school students. Havighurst’s Developmental Tasks come into
play as we see the relationships amongst the passengers and the efforts they
took to help each other, particularly, from the Carpathia vessel. Additional readings include Voyage on the great Titanic: The diary of
Margaret Ann Brady, R. M. S. Titanic, 1912 by Ellen Emerson White and A night to remember by Walter Lord.
